Overview

Starfish also assists students in getting feedback, identifying next steps and connecting with support systems on campus.

  • Progress Surveys, Flags and Kudos - faculty and staff can provide updates to you about concerns, positive steps, and needed to-dos. This will be a central space that you should be checking daily for updates, appointments, reminders and feedback.
  • Raise Your Hand! – This feature lets students ask for help remotely. If you don't know where to go or who to ask for help – this feature will direct your question to the right office who will follow up with you and get you connected to someone who can help.
  • Success Network and Communication - All students will be able to view who is in their Success Network in one place. These are all the people who are connected to you including: faculty, advisors, and your Academic Coaches. Also included are Academic Support Centers and services that all students can rely on for assistance. Students can also schedule an appointment or reach out to their network when they need assistance.

https://www.wpunj.edu/academicsupport/starfish/starfish-for-students/i-received-a-flag-what-should-i-do

What is a flag?

  • Flags are alerts raised by faculty, staff or offices that tell you there is an issue to be taken care of and an action to complete.

What should I do if I have a flag?

  • Most flags will outline an action you need to take - like checking on key paperwork or attending class
  • The most important thing to do when you have a flag is address it early!
  • Reach out, follow the directions given in the flag and ask for help

What are the types of flags?

  • Academic - such as a warning about attendance, needing tutoring or other actions you should take
  • Indication you need to hand in some key paperwork or finish a process

Will I be notified?

  • You’ll get an email about the concern as well as a flag in Starfish
  • There also may be a person or office you can contact for additional help or guidance about what to do

If I have a flag am I in trouble?

  • No - Flags are our way of giving you a heads up about a concern - when there is still time to do something about it.
  • You're not being penalized or punished - you're being guided towards solving a problem, and we're telling you who can help
