If you are looking for William Paterson University's online, web-based, Microsoft Office suite, please see the Microsoft Office 365 article for details and instructions.

Microsoft's latest version of the Office Suite is available as a download for full time student users. Office 2016 features a clean, new look and boasts integration with smartphones, tablets and in the cloud. Students are given the option of installing the 2016 Suite on up to 5 devices and can download the install using their student credentials at www.wpunj.edu/365. For Macintosh users, a download of Office 2016 is also available. For instructions, please see below.

Note for Faculty and Staff
Upgrading to Office 2016 from Office 2013 on Campus Computers
Office 2016 is available to faculty and staff on University Imaged Computers through the Software Center on Windows Machines. MacOS machines maintain Office without user input.

Troubleshooting
Upgrading from previous versions of Microsoft Office, to 2013 causes any previously created shortcuts to no longer function. Faculty and staff should delete shortcuts that no longer work. To open Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, click the Windows button in the lower left or press the Windows button on your keyboard, and begin typing the application name. An icon for the application will appear.

Old-style Office documents will open in read-only mode by default. To circumvent this security restriction, you can add the location of the document as a trusted location using this procedure.
*Click File - Options - Trust Center - Trust Center Settings - Trusted Locations.
*Put a check mark in the box that says "Allow Trusted Locations on my network"
*Click Add new location...
*Browse to the location of your document.
*Click OK repeatedly.

Visual Changes
Outlook 2016 comes with a Metro look/feel, which includes a lot of white space. The following suggestions may help readability/usability in Outlook:
* Change the Office Theme to Gray or Dark Gray
*# Click File > Options
*# Under the General tab, Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office by changing the Office Theme to Dark Gray
*# Click OK
* Add grid lines between messages
*# Click on the tab "VIEW"
*# On the left hand side of the ribbon, click "View Settings"
*# Click on the button "Other Settings"
*# Change your gridline style from "No Gridlines" to "Solid"
*# Click OK

Coming Soon: Changes in to how to submit Daily Announcements
The process for submitting Daily Announcements will be changing in the near future as part of a transition to a newly redesigned Announcements system.

Starting June 21st, Announcement requests should be entered using the WPU Announcement Submission Form located on the Employees tab in WPconnect under Information Technology - Resources. Announcements requests should no longer be created through the Helpdesk ticketing system. This form is only available on employee accounts.

Announcement requests will be reviewed and, once approved, be published to a redesigned Announcements webpage (available at www.wpunj.edu/announcements) as well as the Daily Announcements on WPconnect's Home tab.

A Daily Announcements email displaying each day's newly approved announcements will continue to be sent out. Previously approved announcements will remain published on the Announcements webpage and WPconnect Home tab for the requested posting duration.

At the time of transition, all announcements active in the current system will be added to the new system.

If you have any questions or concerns about this transition, please contact our IT Helpdesk at www.wpunj.edu/help or (973) 720-4357.

Thank you.
Submitting Announcements
Prior to June 21st, requests were made using the Web HelpDesk ticket system. We have now transitioned to using the WPU Announcement Submission Form on WPconnect. This application can be found in the Information Technology Resources area of the Employee tab.

Important Notes
# Announcements are sent Monday through Friday, daily, except during university holidays or when closed. Announcements also display in WPconnect until the announcement expires.
# Announcements should be submitted only once, and will appear in the announcement email one time only. Regarding events where a "hold the date" announcement was submitted, one additional announcement, as the event gets closer, is permitted.
# Duplicate announcements submitted by multiple departments will appear from the department that first submitted the request.
# All announcements must be submitted by 10:00 a.m. in order to be sent out the same day.
# If the announcement is coming from a group or club, the advisor/director of that group or club should submit the announcement.
# If the announcement is related to student research or academic work, the student's research advisor should be included in the request and approve posting.
# Students with requests that do not have a club, organizational, or academic affiliation should contact the Dean of Students (in the Vice President for Student Development's office) for consultation.
# Any announcement determined to be outside of WPUNJ business function of the submitter's department or organization may require approval from the respective Vice President's Office of the department submitting the request.
