ArcGIS Online is a key component and an integral part of Esri’s ArcGIS system. It is a content management system comprised of applications and templates for creating interactive maps. ArcGIS Online users can share maps within an organization or the world through ready-to-use tools that are available for the web, smartphones and tablets. Data, delivered as maps and information feeds, are accessible by other web developers and GIS analysts who can share its contents through the same system. ArcGIS Online is mainly used by GIS professionals to publish information online – including geographic information, cartography, analytics and workflows.

Users can use ArcGIS Online to extend the capabilities of ArcGIS for Desktop, ArcGIS for Server, ArcGIS applications, and ArcGIS APIs and Runtime SDKs. Users can also add many types of maps, layers, applications, tools and files to ArcGIS Online.

To get access to ArcGIS Online a Help Desk ticket must be submitted by a faculty member under the 'Software' category. There are a limited amount of license.
The below article lists the software included on both University-issued student lab and faculty/staff machines. Instructions on using the 'Software Center' are also outlined.

Software Included on All Imaged Machines
All University imaged machines include the following software:
::* MS Office 2016
::* Adobe Flash Player
::* Java Runtime Environment

Software Center
The Software Center allows you to install applications through an easy to use self-service interface. The Software Center functionality is similar to a free app store wherein you select the applications you would like, and they are downloaded directly to your computer without the need for additional passwords, permissions, or a technician on-site. Applications available in Software Center are licensed for use by members of the University. If you would like to request an application that is not listed, please submit a Help Desk ticket.

Using Software Center
# Click the Windows button in the lower left.

# Type Software Center and click when it appears.

# You will see a list of all available software.

# Click the applications you would like to install and click the Install button. Estimated installation times are listed for each application in the details section below the list.

* Click the Installation Status tab to monitor your installation and to see what software has been installed via the Software Center.
Syncing Software Center
* The software center will do a sync about once a week to get a list of all of the available software the university has to offer. This sync can be forced at any time by doing the following steps:
# Click Options.

# Click the drop menu for computer maintenance

# Click 'Sync Policy'

Software Available in Software Center
The following software is currently available in the Software Center:

About Feature Updates
To keep up to-date with Windows Updates, Information Technology will notify end users of new updates via the Windows 10 Upgrade Prompt.

What is a Feature Update?

Feature updates are updates to an existing operating system that bring new features and essential security fixes.

Why should you install Feature Updates?

Older versions of Windows 10 are no longer supported by Microsoft, therefore pose a security risk.
You can find a history of all the updates for Windows 10 here.

What's going to change?
Most people are pleasantly surprised that the look/feel of newer versions of Windows 10 are very similar to previous versions. The same software, files, and even your desktop wallpaper should cary over through the upgrade.

Windows 10 Upgrade Prompt
When an upgrade is available you will be greeted with this prompt that contains three selections, “Upgrade Now”, “Schedule…” and “Minimize”. Please read the prompt thoroughly.

The “Upgrade Now” button starts the feature installation immediately. The upgrade can still be cancelled within 10 seconds (see screenshot below).

The “Schedule…” button allows the user to select a desired date and time to begin the installation. We recommend using the “Schedule…” option to set a date and time outside of work hours so that the upgrade does not interfere with the user during the day.

The “Minimize” simply minimizes the prompt to the bottom right hand side of the taskbar as to not interfere with the user. The user can reopen the prompt at any time to continue with the process.

Final notice will be given 7 days before the deadline. If the user does not choose to “Schedule…” or “Upgrade Now” the computer will be upgraded at a random time and cannot be interrupted.
